"Excellent. We will prepare quarters for the duration of the trip."
He turned to Ryan. "Have the necessary preparations made, Commander."
Turning his attention back to Shi-Zan, "I look forward to having you aboard."

"Should I make arrangements for a full color guard?" Ryan asked before going off to make the arrangements.

The helmsman turned. "Sir, we're ready for transition at your command. FTL wants you to know that there'll be an additional power drain to account for the bigger slip we'll have to make. We'll have to shut some non-essential systems down to open the door to slip-space."

"A color party won't be necessary. I don't want this to start off as a military meeting. I would prefer senior officers join me to meet our guest," He informed Ryan. "Until military customs are known, we had better play it safe."

Turning to the helmsman, he nodded. "Outstanding. Which systems will be offline?"

"Nothing crucial; mostly recreation systems."

The transition to slip-space didn't begin until after Shi-Zan transferred over to the ship. Ryan had mentioned that Shi-Zan requested that he be able to maintain an escort. When Shi-Zan stepped aboard the ship it became clear that his escort was obviously a military one.

Shi-Zan was flanked by two thin, but imposing figures clad in impressive looking glittering deep blue armor. In their right hands, each held a large spear-like device though the spear didn't have a tip, it was obvious that it was a weapon of some sort.

//Greetings again, captain.// He glanced around as he stepped aboard the ship. //Your ship is.....uhm.....impressive.// He smiled in an inhuman sort of way. //I am thoroughly impressed at the bravery of your people for venturing out in such a vessel.//

Comeau decided it wouldn't be worth commenting on what was likely a slip, rather than an underhanded insult regarding Human technology. "At the moment, we haven't a choice in what we use, and we are out here on an important mission. That, I believe, we can discuss after introductions."
Turning to indicate them in turn, " I believe you have already met our telepath, Sylvia, as well as our Special Operations officer, Ventura."
He Continued on. "And our Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Rikers."
"And I don't believe you've met my First Officer, Commander Ryan."
He turned back to Shi-Zan. "Now, if you have no objection, We should get underway. Would you like a quick tour of them ship, before we move on to the Officer's Mess?"

Shi-Zha nodded at the introductions, but did not make an effort to introduce himself or his entourage. //Yes, that would be acceptable.// He turned to Sylvia. //It is pleasing to know that your people are taking steps away from barbarism and do not imprison more advanced individuals like yourself.//

Sylvia blinked and turned towards Comeau unsure on how to react.

Comeau took a deep breath, and looked at Sylvia before turning back to Shi-Zan.
"Actually, many people aren't as open minded about telepathy as would be appropriate, but I believe that would be up to you, Sylvia, to judge. Perhaps at some point you two would like to have a discussion?"

Shi'Zan folded his hands behind his back and absently looked around. //I am interested to see your ship. It is a personal interest of mine to study lesser, more primitive species. I believe it reveals the barbarism more advanced races often forget.// He turned his attention back to Comeau. //When we contact my peoples we will supply you with a....Universal Translator, of sorts. I understand how you non-psionics find mental contact disconcerting.//

Comeau's face flatlined a little more with each progressive insult. It was obvious to him that although this individual claimed an advanced race, tact was not something in the fore of their mind when dealing with others.
"That would be greatly appreciated. Any assistance in our mission, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated."

Comeau nodded. "I believe it would be best to discuss that in private, friend. Reminder might be... Emotional, for any crew that overhears."

//I see.// Shi'Zah paused for a moment, almost as if he were considering his words. //Again, as I said the weight of the thing is the only thing that is shared over our link. Though it is clear that it has something to do with your peoples feelings towards those not of your race. That much I can sense from how those in your company feel around me and my escort.// He nodded. //Though I am quite curious, I am at your disposal captain.//

"Excellent. Then, if that's the case..." Comeau turned to his officers. "Thank you for your attendance, now I believe you have your duties. Kindly, see to them. Dismissed." He stopped himself, "Sylvia, please be so kind as to make yourself as available as possible for the next while."
He turned himself back to his guest.
"Let's discuss this in the briefing room, shall we?"

Silvia nodded feigning the image of the strong confident woman she's always made herself out to be.

//Of course, captain.// Shi'Zah nodded. //I feel as though I have been the one doing all the speaking, metaphorically speaking. I'm sure there is much you wish to learn about my people.// Though Comeau dismissed his staff, Shi'Zah made no efforts to do the same.

Comeau nodded. "Of course. The reason I signed up for this mission in the first place was to come in contact with new and different creatures, be they sentient or otherwise. If you'll follow me, the briefing room is this way."
Comeau indicated the door, and led the way through it, heading down the corridors while talking to Shi'Zan.
"The fact that we have found not only a civilized race, but one that isn't hostile is, to me, a wonderful thing. I'll admit to you. You are the only life, so far, that our species has ever encountered outside of our own planet."

//I will admit// Shi-Zan said as he followed Comeau into the briefing room. //It is nice to see a primitive race such as yours which is also not hostile. My people have been among the stars for some time now and we have met many races. My people have seen many wonderful things, but I assume your people would wish to discover those things by yourselves. Discovery, my people have found, is far more exciting than knowing.//

Offering Shi-Zan a seat, Comeau nodded gravely.
"Some things cannot wait. While we would prefer to make most technological advancements ourselves, I'm sure, we have been sent here with a mission."
Comeau took a deep breath, and straightened himself up a little.
"Our planet has been attacked. We don't know our attackers, but they decimated our fleets. We are one of the few remaining ships. Our planet is in quarantine, as we have been bombed with some sort of phage. Our whole population is infected, save for those of us who were in space at the time. We have been sent out to find a cure, if there is one to be had."

Shi-Zan's reaction, if Comeau knew anything about mannerisms, gave away a hint of horror. //I see. There are a great many races that are hostile in the galaxy, is your race currently at war with the group that brought this horror to your planet?//

Comeau shook his head. "You are the first space faring people we have met, aside from them. We have no idea who they are, very little in the way of clues, unless you or someone else would be able to identify what we recorded."

"Our primary goal is to find a cure. Once that is accomplished, I don't imagine there would be much good in fighting a war." Comeau frowned, and sat back in his seat. "For one thing, I think we would be more interested in rebuilding. There will be those who want revenge, though. Personally, I think giving in to violence would be a death sentence."
He straightened up a bit, "on an official level, though, I have not been ordered to fire unless fired upon, so I am not considering it a war until I have more information."

//You are a very forward thinking individual for someone from such a primitive race.// Shi-Zan nodded encouragingly. //I hope you are in a place of power within your race. Sentiments like yours need to be encouraged.// He crossed his hands and leaned back in his chair. //Hate only leads to more hate. That is a lesson my own species and many others have learned over the ages.//

Comeau smiled weakly.
"I hope that it is many, many other species. We are, as of yet, on the defense. My superiors may want revenge, but my priority is to find a cure. That is what my mission has been laid out as, and that is what I will stick to. I wish I could vouch for the other ships that have ventured out, but with the firepower they have on combat against the firepower we have, even if that were our goal, it would be a slaughter. We don't want conquest, we want to explore and learn diversity."
Comeau stroked his beard, thinking.

"Do you think it likely that your people can identify the species that attacked, based on the technology?"

//A noble cause, my friend. We have, to my knowledge, not met any of your other ships. I hope any other possible meetings between our two peoples have gone as well as ours.// Shi-Zahn paused for a moment and considered the question carefully. //I'm sure we could assess our database and compare data.//

Comeau nodded. He was anxious to know what these people knew about the attackers, but he was more anxious to find a cure, and bring it back to earth as soon as possible. Hell, for all he knew, earths population had already been obliterated completely. There was no telling, from their current position.

"That would be very agreeable, and much appreciated. From there, maybe some sort of cure can be synthesized..."

Comeau stretched his wrists, as they had been idle for too long.

"However, until we can access it, let's try not to dwell on that. I would, as I am sure you would also in return, like to learn more about your people's culture, or cultures."
